General reviews of books (old & new) that I like. I'm also an amateur writer with several stories up on Wattpad under the pseudonym R. S. Leergaard
*Reviewer's Note* The copy of this story I received for review – The Last King – is probably not the same version up for sale on Amazon and elsewhere now. I originally answered a call to review the story before it went to publication (I think), but due to certain failures and limitations on facebook, I did not receive any notification from facebook that Mr. Pereira had sent me a link to his story for me to review. I therefore did not see the link until several months after it had been posted, so the version I review here – The Last King - may not be the same as the one currently up for sale - The Hidden King - at the previously mentioned sites (Amazon, et al).
That being said, I have a list of specific problems I noticed in this edition, but I'm not posting them in this review as they have probably been dealt with in the final version. Many apologies to Mr. Pereira for not noticing or clicking on the link in time to offer a constructive critique prior to its publication.
A short review of The Last King follows.

A rollicking fantasy in the old fashioned sense. Lots of action and palace intrigue with fun and likable characters. The story is interesting enough and will keep most readers attention from start to finish. Epic battles; Amazonian warriors; a semi-magical Kingmaker and his apprentice?; a friendly, allied kingdom; betrayals from supposed allies; a hostile, quasi-religious, conquering nation; and other interesting developments make for a highly entertaining story.
The Last King offers all of these things, and the tale more than makes up for the minor flaws contained within copy I received for critique. I look forward to reading the official version – The Hidden King – and the next titles in the series.
4 stars.
